March 5-8, 2010 Murillo introduces Radium and Odyssey collections designed by Allan Murillo during the Cebu Furniture Exhibition (CEBUNEXT) which runs from March 5-8, 2010 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. ODYSSEY is inspired from one of the most basic shape human beings are exposed to and familiar with - circle. It symbolizes start for others and fullness for some. It is a shape that abounds in nature and man-made objects. The design starts with 6 perfect circles and forms like a flower as they overlaps. It is made of powder-coated metal frame and wrapped with polyethylene strips. Odyssey uses upholstery techniques not commonly used in the local furniture industry. It combines the old craft of furniture making and centuries-old weaving techniques. RADIUM is about going back to basics. It is inspired from the old traditional baskets-this time around without the weave. It uses only sticks or spokes. It relies on the old traditional way of handcrafting furniture. Trusting on experience and familiarity of materials, it challenges common ways on manipulation and application. RADIUM looks frail and airy but with all its parts functioning perfectly the whole structure is stable and strong to support the weight of the user. Christopher Murillo also displayed his artworks, VOYAGER (mixed media), SCULPTURES (made of found objects) and PIXELS (wall installation). These are samples of more his works that are displayed at the special gallery section of their showroom. This space is dedicated to show artworks and other experimental pieces that the brothers create. MURILLO produces one-offs, serial production and limited-edition pieces. They also accept commission works. |

MARCH 5-8, 2009 MURILLO presented its new designs at the Cebu International Furniture and Furnishings Exhibition (CebuX 2009) held at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, Cebu Philippines last March 5-8, 2009. New collections for the show were; DRUM, SIESTA, RHOMBOID, SATELLITE HEXA, STARBURST, LAMPS AND MINI SCULPTURES. The lamp designs were inspired by animals from water mainly from the sea like; FISH, SHELL, NAUTILUS, SQUID, PENGUIN and land like; PEACOCK, ROOSTER (COCK), DEER and CARABAO. Most are designed as table lamps but bigger versions suit better as floor lamps. These lamps represent the funny and playful side of Allan in his interpretation of his design ideas. Allan Murillo's latest collections for Living Room, Dining Room and Lamps tell very much of his fascination and inspiration by simple things from his locale, like Duyan (local term for hammock) on the SIESTA CHAIR and from Sarok (local hat made of bamboo strips and banana leaves) for SATELLITE HEXA. Mini sculptures series were Christopher Murillo's experiments of shapes and forms. They come in two standard sizes; large and small. As concepts, they can be used as full blown sculptures or perhaps as future buildings. ISLANDIC, MONOPHONIC, PRIESTESS, PHOENIX, STRATA, MOON FLOWER, RAPTOR, RESONANCE and GAZELLE are some of the items exhibited. Allan's booth design was simple, casual and uncluttered. One cannot miss the SATELLITE WALL LAMP and the egg-shaped INFINITY HANGING LAMPS. INFINITY 2 SEATER (winner of the Mugna Award 2008, Best Furniture Design) was used as visitors' sofa for the negotiation area with the layers of mini sculptures as the main wall feature. Green footprints were stuck on the steps leading to the booth and into the entrance floor. It guided the visitors and at the same time it was a subtle way of showing the company's commitment to its environment management systems. Brothers, Allan Murillo and Christopher Murillo were very happy how visitors liked the designs creations they displayed. As they have done in the past they always want to inject more art in their designs and the lines in between the two can be blurred at times. |

"I fell in love with this immediately, to try to create something that actually feels, you know light and almost somewhat fragile be, yet to have a base so sturdy and comfortable at the same time to see through it, it's a great idea, the idea of having this sitting outside looking through your window, looking towards your pool, your kids were playing behind it, you know it's just the whole; everything it offers from that standpoint – it's perfect," said Andre Agassi on MERCURY CHAIR design by Allan Murillo. "Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf aim for greatness in everything they do and every aspect of their lives. To have my designs included in their collection for their galleries is excellent," Allan Murillo. |

March 6-9, 2008 Murillo participated in the Cebu International Furniture and Furnishings Exhibition (CebuX) held at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, Cebu Philippines. Designer brothers, Allan Murillo and Christopher Murillo introduced their latest design collections and pieces. Allan concentrated his designs efforts as usual on furniture while elder brother Christopher does the wall décors and art pieces. Main collections for the show were, Infinity Collection, Satellite Collection, Kendo Collection, Integra Collection, Beachcomber Collection, Daytona Collection, Neptune Collection, Celestia Collection and Winston Collection. Puso lamps (hanging rice) were one of the highlights. First introduced by Allan Murillo at the Cebu International Furniture and Furnishings Exhibition Show in 2002, he shown it again this year using different material. Another design, tooth stool, was reintroduced this time in glamorous finish of gold or silver. These two designs were originally developed for the booth design purposes only. However, due to persistent demand, productions were made and have been selling well since. Allan design inspirations for the new collections were shown through display of maquettes on top of illuminated pedestals. Placed on strategic locations to help better distribute the lightings of the whole booth, not only it showed where the ideas started and some experiments involved but also the simplicity and ingenuity. Buyers and visitors alike were amazed to see where the ideas began and finished items displayed side by side. |

February 26-March 1, 2007 Philippine president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo visited Murillo's booth during the Cebu International Furniture and Furnishings Exhibition 2007. Murillo launched "Innovative ways of interpreting tradition" - phrase that says much of Murillo's origin. New collections retrace it's early beginnings, the culture and tradition that the company adhered to over the years. Natural materials and traditional craftsmanship with the help of technology. Christopher Murillo installed artworks and a functioning sound equipment wall feature. He mainly used different sounds from the machines and tools for making furniture and feed them into his electronic set up. He tweaks or distorts the sounds - whatever makes him feel good while he does his works. Another booth feature was the MERCURY CHAIR designed by Allan Murillo for Andre Agassi and wife Steffi Graf under AGASSI GRAF KREISS program. The booth and collections presented had some extra dimension. It gave buyers and visitors some idea on how people behind Murillo work- the passion, inspiration and celebration of life. |
